Old Goal, Grahamstown

AfriCoast was appointed for the rehabilitation of the historic Old Goal in Grahamstown constructed in 1824. As this is a heritage building, special attention was given to preserving as much of the old buildings as possible. Where items such as doors were beyond salvage and repair, these were replaced with new, manufactured to as closely resemble the original as possible.

A section of the inner courtyard walls was given a special clear protective coating so as to show what the walls would have looked like at the time the goal was still used for incarcerating prisoners.
