Mthatha SEZ

Africoast Consulting Engineers was appointed by Coega Development Corporation for the planning of the Mthatha Special Economic Zone (SEZ). The proposed SEZ is located adjacent to the Mthatha Airport, south of Mtata Dam. The planning of the SEZ consists of the bulk potable water, internal potable water, raw water, stormwater, waste water and bulk waste water reticulations, internal roads, access roads, electrical and telecommunication services required to sustain a fully developed economic zone. The master plan therefore covered all the basis of possible future user demands for the establishment of commercial and agricultural operations. The aforementioned were done through a thorough investigation and engaging with various stakeholders throughout the planning process.

The CDC undertook the necessary background studies for the development of a business case for a Wild Coast SEZ on behalf of the provincial government of the Eastern Cape. The Wild Coast SEZ programme forms part of the Provincial EXCO endorsed “Integrated Wild Coast Development Programme” which seeks to designate programmes geared towards the improvement of the living standards of the people living in the Wild Coast Region.
