Nooitgedacht Water Treatment Works
Nooitgedagt Water Treatment Works
The Nooitgedagt WTW is the largest and most important water treatment works serving Nelson Mandela Bay Metro. The original works with design capacity of 70Ml/day was build during the late 1980’s and early 1990’s.
The WTW was upgraded and extended in two phases of 70Ml/day each as part of the R1.3 billion Nooitgedagt/Coega Low Level Scheme.
AfriCoast was appointed by NMBM as both Lead Consultant for the entire Low Level Scheme and as Design Consultant for the upgrading of the Nooitgedagt WTW.
Ph 2 of the project increased the capacity of the WTW from 70Ml/d to 140Ml/d through the provision of additional filters, upgrades to the chemical dosing system and the low-level final water pump station.
Ph 3 further increased the WTW capacity by an additional 70Ml/d to the current 210Ml/d capacity.
Ph 3 comprised a complete stand-alone treatment module comprising:
- automated self-cleaning raw water strainer
- flash mixer
- flocculation chanels
- 2 x 35Ml/d lamella settling tanks
- 6 x filters
- chemical and chlorine dosing systems
- plant automation and SCADA
